[PENNMUSH] A Newbie and His Questions

So, I'm fiddling with the precompiled 1.8.0p2 Win32
version of Penn, and seem to be having some wierd
problems, so I figured I'd appeal to the list for
help. :)

A) @desc doesn't work. This was the very first thing I
did after starting the MUSH process and logging in;
all I get is the "Huh? (Type "help" for help)"
message. @describe works, in that it doesn't display
an error message, but the desc doesn't hold; if I type
'look', anything I used @describe on is blank.
@descformat works when I use 'look', but I get
continual warnings about no desc being set. Is there
something I can do to fix this soft-coded, or will I
have to knuckle down and compile something?

B) Is there a way to lock certain '&<whatever>=<blah>'
attributes to admin? I'm using a +finger system where
the fields are set by using &attributes, like
'&age=23', etc. But I'd kinda like to prevent players
from changing their profiles and whatnot on the fly.
Can I do this?
